The late afternoon air hinted of the evening’s first frost. Baldwin, resting by the birdbath, curled up into a ball of fur as he tried to keep out the chill of the wind’s presence. He feigned sleep and his eyes appeared closed to the day's departing light, yet his ears twitched as they listened to all the sounds and movements that seemed within his reach.
A branch was still moving from Andy’s hasty departure. Now a safe distance away and feeling rather pleased that he escaped Baldwin’s razor-sharp claws, Andy proceeded to scold Baldwin rather loudly for his laziness and laughed at his inability to catch him. Baldwin looked up into the tree and seemed a bit bored as he gave a big yawn. It was time for another nap.
